Not "just" a different interface. They are connected to different ports, yes. But USB is much faster. Standard is limited to a very slow speed. The only advantage of the series is that you can go far in the cable (one hundred meters).
Most PCs today have no more serial ports (you may have received USB to serial adapter), and you may have trouble finding drivers for Windows XP, Vista or 7.
